2018 Spring Conference Information

The 2018 Spring Conference will be held at the University of Dayton, March 23-24, 2018. Download the current program on the main conference page.

We will be offering a Teacher Workshop as part of the conference.

On Saturday afternoon, tours of nearby National Parks Service Sites are available.

Hotel Information:

A room block has been set aside for OAH attendees at the Marriott at the University of Dayton for $ 127 per night.

To reserve your room, call the Marriott at 1-937-223-1000 and request the Ohio Academy of History rate. The reservation deadline was February 23, 2018, but the hotel will honor the room rate as long as they have rooms available. If you have difficulties, ask to speak to the event manage, Colleen Whalen.

Parking Information:

Information about parking locations and a map of the University of Dayton campus are online at https://udayton.edu/publicsafety/parking/parking_map.php

Please park in either B or C lots, as they are closest to the Kennedy Union. You will not need a permit if you arrive after 4.30 on Friday. However, if you do arrive on campus before 4.30 on Friday afternoon you will need a temporary permit available at the C lot attendant’s booth, or at the main campus parking booth. (These are located just off Founders Lane near the entrance to C Lot or near the intersection of L and College Park Drive near the main library building (2 on the college map); the booths are marked with a purple “i” icon on the campus map.) No permit is required to park in either B or C lot on Saturday. If you arrive before 4:30 p.m. on Friday, notify the attendant at either the C Lot or Main Campus Parking Booth that you are at UD for the Ohio Academy of History meeting.

Restaurant Information:

This website (https://www.tripadvisor.com/RestaurantsNear-g60785-d5790031-University_of_Dayton-Dayton_Ohio.html) provides a long list of restaurants near the University of Dayton campus, including those on the Brown Street Corridor. Below are a couple of lists of recommended restaurants from that website – some within walking distance; others in driving distance, but not too far.

Within walking distance of campus on the Brown Street Corridor; Recommended (close; good food; sit-down; faster service):

  • Bibibop Asian Grill
  • El Rancho Grande
  • North Village Chinese Restaurant
  • Ginger and Spice
  • Jimmie’ Ladder 11
  • Butter Café – great place on Brown Street, but only open for breakfast and lunch.

Oregon District (will need to drive; parking can sometimes be an issue):

  • Jay’s Seafood
  • Dublin Pub

Others (with warnings):

  • Carillon Brewing Company – Historic Brew pub on the grounds of Carillon Park. Will need to drive. Limited menu. Can be crowded on the weekends.
  • Pine Club – Finest dinning in the area, also within walking distance (near Dayton-Oakwood border); limited parking – however, no reservations, cash or check only. $$$$$
  • Cocos – Better dining, long walking distance, but parking available. My experience has been VERY slow service. $$$

Note: there are any number of fast food restaurants as well, many within easy walking distance.
